While reading Simon Sinek’s book “Start with Why” I asked myself why is it so difficult to find companies whose Why you truly get. In the book, Sinek talks about companies like Apple, Continental Airlines and Starbucks whose Why employees and customers get and remain loyal to them. So I asked myself, do I know any company that I have done business with that also get their Why and has earned my loyalty over time?
I do have a company and it is The Great Courses. They provide college level courses on CDs, DVD, online audio and video that are taught by some of the top teaching professors in their field on subjects ranging from literature, religion, history, social sciences, sciences, mathematics, professional development and more. I have many of these courses and I would say I have rarely been disappointed of their content, quality and value.I have been a customer since 2006 and I often purchase their courses to gain knowledge about wide variety of subjects.
I did just that in 2013 and a week later I received a check refunding me fully for those courses, with no questions asked. Their Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee was no marketing gimmick; it was real.
The company reminds you of their Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee in their catalog and on their website and it states: “Because we want you to be with us for a lifetime of learning. Not only are we protecting your investment in learning with our Lifetime Satisfaction Guarantee, we’re also compelling ourselves to produce only great courses---and nothing less.”
You don't have to take my word. Even Bill Gates is a loyal customer of this company. When he was recently interviewed by Charlie Rose on "60 Minutes," Gates talks about how he uses these courses from The Great Courses to satisfy his curiosity of knowledge on wide range of subjects.
The Great Courses not only produces great educational products and provides excellent service, but they stand behind their products and values and, thus, have earned my loyalty.
